Air Duct Cleaning in Hermann, MO
Air duct cleaning in Hermann is worth paying for in a few specific situations, and we will tell you if yours is not one of them. The EPA does not recommend cleaning ducts routinely, only as needed: substantial visible mold, vermin in the system, or ducts clogged with debris that blows out of the registers.

What does the EPA say about duct cleaning?
Clean ducts when there is a reason, not on a calendar. The EPA's wording is direct: it "does not recommend that the air ducts be cleaned routinely, but only as needed." That is why we look inside before we talk about price.
Nor, the EPA adds, has cleaning ever been proven to prevent health problems, and a light amount of dust in ducts poses no evident health risk.
| What is found | Does it call for cleaning? | What comes first |
|---|---|---|
| Substantial visible mold in ducts or on system parts | Yes | Stop the moisture source, or it returns |
| Mice, insects or nests in the ducts | Yes | Close the entry point, remove the pests |
| Ducts clogged with debris, particles from supply registers | Yes | Find out why: missing filter, open return, remodel dust |
| Light dust on a register cover | No | Wipe or vacuum the cover |
| A dusty house overall | Usually not | Check the filter and look for return leaks |
| A musty smell | Not at first | Measure humidity, check the drain pan |

When air duct cleaning pays off around Hermann
Four local situations produce real debris, not ordinary dust.
- Crawl-space returns. A leaking return under the floor pulls in soil dust and damp air, and that material settles in the run. Seal it, or the duct fills again.
- Rural rodents. Older farmhouses have gaps that mice find before winter, and a duct makes a warm nest.
- Remodel dust. Half of Hermann's homes date to 1956 or earlier (Point2Homes). Sanding old plaster with the blower running sends fine dust straight through the system.
- Flood or plumbing water. River-bottom ducts can take on water. The EPA says wet or moldy insulation cannot be effectively cleaned, so that section needs duct repair rather than a vacuum.

Searching for a dusty house fix? Ordinary dust usually starts with the filter, and a tighter filtration setup may do more than a duct cleaning service.

What is included in a duct cleaning visit
Ask any contractor to put these deliverables in writing.
- A look inside supply and return ducts before any cleaning starts, with the findings shown to you.
- A check of older ducts for materials that may contain asbestos.
- Cleaning of the supply runs, return runs, registers and grilles.
- A look at the blower, coil and drain pan, because cleaning ducts alone leaves those parts dirty.
- A new filter and a plain summary of what caused the buildup.
The work follows this order.
- We confirm why you called and what you have seen at the registers.
- We pull registers and inspect the runs with a light.
- We stop if we find suspect asbestos, wet insulation or growing mold, and explain the next step.
- We protect floors and furnishings at each opening.
- The EPA calls for vacuum equipment that exhausts outdoors, or through a HEPA filter if it exhausts inside, used with controlled brushing.
- We close any access openings airtight, put the registers back and run the system.

HVAC duct cleaning options compared
Cleaning is one option among several.
| Option | When it fits | What it will not do |
|---|---|---|
| Whole-system cleaning | Debris throughout, or mold after the moisture is fixed | Stop dirt coming back through leaks |
| Cleaning one run | A nest or a clog in a single branch | Address the rest of the system |
| Sealing the ducts | Dust or damp drawn in through return joints | Remove what has already settled |
| A better filter | Fine dust that keeps circulating | Clear heavy debris from a duct |
What duct cleaning will not do
Skip the job if you want any of these outcomes.
- Better health. No one can promise it. If you have unexplained symptoms, the EPA's advice is to talk with your doctor.
- Lower bills. The EPA says little evidence exists that cleaning only the ducts improves efficiency. Dirty coils and fans are a different matter, and a furnace tune-up reaches those.
- A cure for mold. Controlling moisture is what prevents growth in ducts, according to the EPA. Do not run a system you suspect has mold.
- Pollen control. Oak and ragweed reach the house through open doors and windows, so filters matter more than vent cleaning.
How much does duct cleaning cost?
Expect about $450 to $1,000 per system, by the EPA's count. Fixr's 2026 figures put most homes at $300 to $700. Those are national figures, not our prices.
The bill moves with the number of registers, the size of the ducts, crawl-space access and what is inside. Mold and vermin cost more than dust. Fixr adds about $140 for a dryer vent on the same visit. Ask us for a clear, upfront quote after we have looked inside, and be careful with any low coupon that grows once the crew arrives.

Dryer vents deserve their own attention. The U.S. Fire Administration lists failure to clean as the leading factor in home dryer fires, at 31 percent from 2018 to 2020.
Why Brian Grannemann Services for a straight answer on ducts
- Since 1998 this advice has come from a local office at 124 E 10th St, not a coupon mailer.
- We are not a duct-cleaning-only shop. If sealing or a better filter solves it, we can quote that instead.
- Donna M. called us "very thorough" and said we take every safety precaution, which matters when old ducts may hide asbestos.
- Our Google profile stands at 4.7 from 15 reviews (checked Nov 2026).
Keeping ducts clean after the visit

What customers say on Google
4.7 on Google(15 reviews)“Hot water heater went out and Brian worked with us to help us find the correct replacement parts, and the repair process. He is knowledgeable, reliable and very responsive. He came out saw that we needed one more possible part and said he wouldn’t charge us labor until the water heater was up and running. We got the right parts he came out to install and had us up and running! We will definitely rely on him again for any future issues with HVAC, water heater, and or plumbing issues! It’s so nice to have hot water again!”
“I can’t say enough good about Brian and his company. They are my go to guy’s. I’ve had them work for me about a half dozen times now. No need to look elsewhere. They are fair and responsive to your needs.”
“Brian consistently shows up when promised, completes the work correctly the first time, and provides quality products. I cannot recommend him more highly.”

Air Duct Cleaning questions
How often should air ducts be cleaned?
There is no set schedule. The EPA does not recommend routine duct cleaning, so treat any offer of a two-year or annual plan with care. Have ducts looked at when something changes: a remodel, a rodent problem, water in a crawl space, or debris coming out of a register.
Should I clean the ducts after buying an older house in Hermann?
Not automatically. Pull a register or two and look with a flashlight first. If the previous owner remodeled, kept pets or left the filter out, you may find real buildup. If you only find light dust, change the filter and spend the money on sealing leaks in the crawl space.
Will duct cleaning get rid of the dust in my house?
Probably not on its own. The EPA says dirty ducts are only one source of household particles. A loose filter or a leaking return is the more common cause in older homes. If registers are not blowing visible debris, check those first, because a cleaned duct behind a bad filter simply gets dirty again.
Should I let a company spray a sanitizer in my ducts?
Ask hard questions first. The EPA says the safety and effectiveness of chemical biocides and sealants in ducts are not well established, and that no biocide is registered for internally insulated ducts. If anyone proposes one, ask for the product label, why it is needed and how you will be protected.
What should I do about mice in my ductwork?
Deal with the entry point before anything else. Cleaning comes after the mice are gone and the gap is closed, or the next family moves in. Farmhouses beside fields and timber see this more often. Call us with what you found and where.
Can you clean my dryer vent too?
Mention it when you book so it can be planned into the visit. NFPA advises clearing lint from the vent pipe about once a year, or sooner if clothes take longer to dry. Long runs through a basement to an outside wall are worth checking, because crushed or plastic vent pipe traps more lint.
